As these initiatives continue to grow and new ones (like potential cooperative consortiums in robotics) emerge, they will play a vital role in ensuring that the benefits of AI and automation are universal, not just for the few. The cooperative model – with its emphasis on democracy, participation, and community – may well be a key to unlocking a more just and human-centered AI future.
